DigInfo - http://movie.diginfo.tvRelated... Link: http://www.toyota.co.jp/jp/tec... Toyota added a new technology to the pool of its hybrid technologies. The company has developed the first plug-in hybrid vehicle that has been certified for use on public roads in Japan. The Toyota Plug-in HV uses, like earlier Toyota hybrid vehicles, both a gasoline-powered internal combustion engine and an electric motor. The vehicle uses two nickel-metal hydride secondary batteries; the current Prius hybrid vehicle uses one such battery.Increased battery capacity gives the vehicle a longer electric-motor-only cruising range, and a battery-charging device allows users to replenish the batteries using household electricity, enabling the vehicle to run more often in gasoline-free, electric-only mode, on short trips in city driving.Toyota claims that the new vehicle has a cruising range of 13km and a maximum vehicle speed of 100km/h in electric mode.Toyota considers plug-in hybrid vehicles as a promising technology for using electricity as a viable power source for automobiles. The company will conduct public-road tests in Japan using eight Plug-in HV vehicles this fall. It also plans to conduct public-road tests in the US and Europe.Toyota has yet to announce when to commercialize the Plug-in HV.

How do u think the electricity is made?Flowers just turn those gas turbines? Besides, the whole idea behind these hybrids is stupid. A gas engine, charging an electric engine.... Why not just have the gas engine focus on driving? The braking-recharge mechanism makes sense, and so does having a SOLAR PANEL recharge the battery, yet you dont see any solar panels on cars. The problem is also not Carbon emissions, its running out of OIL. Cows alone produce more carbon as Methane than ALL of the CARS

Won't this heavily increase cost for electricity ?

prius sucks - when HV battery dies, the car is paperweight, $2400 for new traction battery !!

That Japanese dude makes no sense! There is NO infrastructure in place for Hydrogen, much less now that the Government stop funding it. On the other hand, we already have an electrical grid, we can plug into our homes. But yeah this is how deep big Oil has penetrated the auto industry. I hope this idiots will stop their lame excuses. Give me my EV now!

I predict that there will be more people being electrocuted trying to plug the extension cord into their hybrid in the pouring rain.

They do mass produce it. People are still afraid of hi-tech stuff. A taxi driver told me it was the best taxi he ever drove, especially in slow heavy start-stop traffic.
